Puncture Force Blunt Needle: The Blunt needle has a flat tip and won't split the casing wires. Not so hot in the soft stuff. I couldn't be happier with my choice in the Continental Contact II's. The reflective strip is a nice touch as we typically get out and ride near, during, and after dusk. What seems new is the "SafetyPro" layer of anti-puncture material under the tread, which we haven't seen on any other Continental tire yet. The reason is that bigger tires can use softer compounds as the pressure per square mm of contact area is lower. The tire construction itself rounds off the overall high quality. On some tires with weakly bonded casing wires, the sharp needle can split the casing wires resulting in a lower score. It works out to between 3,500 and 4,000 annual miles on that bike. It appears that the front may go another 2,000 miles before needing replacement.
